What a turn-around! After four previous competitive matches without a win, the Super Eagles have regained their winning momentum with a 3-0 win over Benin Republic in their opening 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
The win also put the Super Eagles at the top of Group D table after both Libya and Rwanda played 1-1 draw last Thursday.
It is also the biggest win by the Super Eagles since their 2023 6-0 win over Sao Tome & Principe last year September.
Ademola Lookman put Nigeria ahead in the 45th minutes of the first half after he dribbled past three defenders to score an incredible goal.
A few minutes into the second half, head coach Augustine Eguavoen made few changes, which brought in Victor Osimhen into the game to strengthen the attacking force.
In the 78th minute, Victor Osimhen, his fourth substitute, scored the second goal by converting a cross from Wilfred Ndidi.
And In the 83rd minute, Lookman completed a brace by heading in a cross from Moses Simon to score Nigeria's third goal.
Great man Ademola Lookman, he put in two goals straightening the possibility of his emerging as 2024 African Footballer of the Year.
The current title holder, Victor Osimhen proved his mettle coming off the bench in the second half to score his only goal of the match.
Benin Republic with no points and a deficit of three goals are rooted at the bottom of group D.
