The Super Eagles of Nigeria were held to a goalless draw by Rwanda's Amavubi in their 2025 AFCON qualifier on Tuesday, despite dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities,
Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman, who were expected to lead Nigeria's attack, failed to find the back of the net, with Lookman's disallowed goal in the 22nd minute being the closest the Super Eagles came to scoring.
Nigeria made a bright start, with Lookman and Victor Boniface creating chances, but Rwanda's goalkeeper, Fiacre Ntwari, was equal to the task, making several saves to keep his team in the game.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen made substitutions at halftime, bringing in Moses Simon for Samuel Chukwueze and Osimhen for Boniface, but the changes failed to yield the desired result.
Rwanda grew into the game in the second half, controlling possession, but Nigeria still created the better chances, with Simon and Osimhen getting efforts on target, which were saved by Ntwari.
The draw extends Nigeria's unbeaten record against Rwanda to six games, but the Super Eagles will be disappointed not to have secured a second consecutive win under Eguavoen.
Nigeria will next host Libya in the AFCON qualifiers in October, before facing the same opponents eight days later in Tripoli.
