Chelsea and Manchester United have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Lecce's Super Eagles-eligible defender Patrick Dorgu, according to All Nigeria Soccer. The 20-year-old Danish-Nigerian left-back has impressed with his performances in the Italian top flight, catching the attention of top European clubs.
Dorgu's versatility is seen as a major asset, with the ability to play in multiple positions including left-back, left wingback, right winger, right-back, and right wingback. This flexibility has made him an attractive target for Premier League clubs, who value players who can adapt to different positions and formations.
Chelsea have been monitoring Dorgu since the summer transfer window, but a deal did not materialize. However, the Blues are still keen on signing the young defender and have joined the race alongside Manchester United and Tottenham.
Dorgu has made three appearances for Denmark, but remains eligible to play for Nigeria due to his Nigerian descent. The 20-year-old had a dream debut for Denmark, scoring just 47 seconds after coming off the bench in a UEFA Nations League fixture against Switzerland in September.
In ten appearances in the Italian top flight so far this season, all of which he started, Dorgu has scored two goals. He joined Lecce from Nordsjælland youth academy in 2022 and has a contract with the Giallorossi until the end of the 2028-2029 season.
The interest from Premier League clubs is likely to spark a bidding war, with Lecce's negotiating position strengthened by Dorgu's contract situation. However, the Italian club may find it difficult to resist the allure of a significant transfer fee, potentially paving the way for Dorgu's move to the Premier League.
